How does turkish people feel about erdogan?

Question by Romeo: How does turkish people feel about erdogan?
He has made so many changes to our country, both good and bad and from what I know people either love him or hate him.

Personaly, I dont like where my country is heading. Ever since he came in power, turkey has been more religious! Please dont message back saying that is not true because I have proof, my extended family who was a moderate muslim is now covered up in black robes, in love with AKP who is paying them good money to operate Kuran courses for the locals.

As as wel becoming more religious he slowly drifted us apart from the West and the examples of that is

1 Becoming enemies with Israel
2 While the US, Russia, China was againts the idea of Iran with nuclear power, turkey who is west ally decides to be the hero by not stopping it but trying to solve it with mutual agreement.
3 Pretending to want to join the EU but not bothering to make efforts with completing chapters and being further away from joining it then ever before
ETC

on the other hand getting closer to the arab world and the middle east by

1 Abusing the Israeli president about the palestinians
2 Increasing the Investing and trading links with the east
3 Increasing turkish influence to the arab world
4 Becoming closer to the iranians and the arabs then ever before!

All of this in recent years was not coincidence, yes he had reasons for everything but i personally think that it was all a big plan! Yes i feel sorry for the poor palestinians, but this is not our war!, there are many people around the world suffer just as much if not more then palestinians, but the only reason turkey is doing its best to help them is because they are muslim! Arabs betrayed us in world war for more money now we are going out of our way to destroy our friendship with israel and america just because they are muslim?

Erdogan is turning towards Islam and the east and his excuse to this is “the more the West push us away the more we turn towards east. This is all a game that his playing, we turks need to wake up!

Personaly I am not a fond of joining the EU, but i would rather join the EU then middle east. I dont want to see my country turning into Iran. I respect religion but I believe religion is a personal thing, its something that connects you individually to god, its not a guide to run a nation.

So my question is to my fellow turkish citizens, how do you feel about all this, how does religion affect your life and where do you see turkey in years time and where do you want to see turkey in years time. Do you not agree that Erdogan is changing our nation and our appreciation and love for Ataturk and his reforms?

Romeo i am turkish and i consider Erdogan the revelation, the hero of the Turkey because thanks to him the Islamic religion (the right, the only real) are restablishing instead to keep the laicity, thanks to him we are nearest at arabic world, thanks to him finally the unfaithful israel is not accepted and i precise that religion is not something private, you are in error, religion are the teacher of the life, the manner and ALLAH swt know more.

Any people who believe Ataturk was partially hyped up? Can you further my argumet with more examples?

Question by Socratic Discourse: Any people who believe Ataturk was partially hyped up? Can you further my argumet with more examples?
Ok, before all you Ataturk lovers and fans get on my case understand that I know that without Ataturk there would be no Turkish nation state. However, reading the conventional texts all I can see is the name Ataturk. I can see no one else mentioned. Here is an excerpt from a book I was reading…History of Modern Turkey…Kemalism also meant the devotion of Ataturk…especially in his address to the Turkish Youth Group of 1935 and his famous 6 day speech delivered to the Republican People’s Party Congress in October 1927. The speech purported to be a history of the Turkish revolution up to that point, and for generations of Turkish historians both in Turkey and outside of Turkey, it has been accepted as a sacred text (sacred text to historians…i smell bias in Turkish history) The speech emphasizes the leading role in the events of the speaker, Mustafa Kemal himself, and DOWNPLAYS the contributions of others”

( I have also seen information in credited books saying Ataturk hid records of his political enemies advances and that he just took over from where the young turks started)

In addition , the Tanzimat reforms that the Ottomans did were instrumental to the success of Ataturk yet it says rarely anywhere that they are given credit.

So my question is can you guys give me more examples…

furious arguments going against my claims don’t help… I know Atatuk was great and amazing but I really want to see other men given credit…I know one of them is Talaat Pasha and another was Kazim Karabekir…perhaps Said Nursi…can you guys give me more examples…

THANKS!!!

give me more!

i can understand from your question that even though you are interested in turkish history, you don’t have much knowledge. because…

Kazim Karabekir is one of highest commendants of Turkish Army in Independence War, and even though he did great in the battlefield, he didn’t even support the idea of “Republic”. how can he get credit for a new modern Turkey. he was partially against it. and didn’t take place in the first ten years of modernisation.

and Said Nursi, : )) that is a joke, he is a islamic feudal man hoping for a country ruled by sharia law. no need to say, he is just a ignoramus. that man has still supporters hoping for a islamic country. he also is loved by many just because he is kurdish. should we give credit to a man who thinks, women are not as human as men?!

tanzimat issue is not as black and white as them but of course has some effects on modernisation of life… or kanuni esasi… but all these modernisation movements has little or no effect on people. on whole population. their effect were small on educated people only. the real and biggest effect came by the determination of republic cadre

Unfortunately Ataturk deserves all credits. do nations create heroes or do heroes create nations? a question includes Ataturk

Why do so many people pay attention to the Jew Holocaust?

Question by The BigBoy: Why do so many people pay attention to the Jew Holocaust?
This isn’t a racist question so if you answer by saying “Racist” you ll get reported. How come people dont pay attention to the Armenian(Im Armenian) Genocide? The turks are as bad as the Germans for committing a genocide/Holocaust. Some people dont know or care about the Armenians. The Armenian population was reduced. But now Jews have like 10 Babies and its annoying. I go to the park and its filled with more and more jews. (Again im not being racist) People should start paying attention to the Armenian holocaust. Im really pissed about it. Stupid George Bush.
Doreen the top goes for you.
Bella i’m talking about the Holocausts not WW2. Oh and for the person that said of how they were treated why dont you watch a movie/documentary on how the Armenians were treated during the Armenian genocide. And also the Turks did this on their own. For the Germans Adolf Hitler brainwashed them because of Germanys state of economy. They were all hungry and would believe anything but the Turks just wanted the land.

Why do some people assume only white people practiced slavery, and only non-whites were ever enslaved?

Question by darkryder13: Why do some people assume only white people practiced slavery, and only non-whites were ever enslaved?
My ancestors are from the Balkans, and Caucasian. They were slaves for more than 500 years to the Ottoman Turks. Why do some people only seem to think the West practiced slavery when it existed everywhere? This is not to defend the Western powers’ slavery, not by a long shot, as they exploited the Balkans and Mediterranian as well. I was just a little shocked to come to the US and immediately be considered part of the “oppressive white majority” when where I come from we were the slaves. So how should I deal with the few angry, vocal people who seem to think I owe them something for slavery in the United States? Should I tell them they then owe me for my ancestors slavery in the Balkans?
I should probably clarify a bit. The people I am dealing with are in a college environment, and for the most part are white, not black. I chalk most of it up to ignorance, but it’s a little frustrating to put up with.
