Canary Islands Wealth of Sub-tropical Vacation Possibilities

Seven islands make up the archipelago known as the Canary Islands. These are La Palma, La Gomera, El Hierro, Tenerife, Gran Canaria, Fuerteventara, and Lanzarote. Because they are an autonomous region of Spain, many tourists do not realise that they lay in the Atlantic ocean, 750 miles south of the Mediterranean and only a few miles outside of the tropic of cancer.

This location makes the islands the only technically European resort to provide a guarantee of winter sun. Flights from British and other northern European airports take between three and a half and four and a half hours to transfer holidaymakers from a world of cold, winter gloom to a sub-tropical paradise of perpetual spring. Yet despite the islands’ proximity to Africa and the tropics, summer time is surprisingly mild, being just a few degrees warmer than winter. The weather never feels like a hot, African summer, resembling instead, a warm, Mediterranean spring. Little wonder that the Islands were once known to as the Fortunate Islands!

This remarkable climate brought about booming tourism from the 1960s onwards. Although this has undoubtedly spoilt some parts of the major islands, plenty of unspoilt scenery remains, almost everywhere. Tenerife and Gran Canaria have suffered more from the growth of mass tourism than the other islands. On Gran Canaria mass tourism was originally confined to Las Palmas, the islands capital; but development quickly spread to Maspalomas and Playa del Ingles. These are both resorts on the south coast, where weather conditions are generally sunnier than in the north where Las Palmas is situated. On Tenerife, tourism spread in a similar pattern from the northern city of Puerto de la Cruz to the south coast, making its most devastating impact at Playa de las Americas. Despite these examples of unchecked and somewhat uncouth development, many areas of the coasts of both islands remain free of overly unpleasant urbanization with low impact tourist development having been achieved remarkably well. Non coastal areas are all virtually untouched by tourist development.

Of the remaining five islands, Fuerteventura and Lanzarote enjoy substantial tourism without any places having been over developed along the lines of Playa de las Americas or Playa del Ingles. The main tourist resorts on Fuerteventura are Corralejo and Jandia. Corralejo is in the North and popular with British tourists whilst Jandia is in the south and mainly visited by German holidaymakers. In Lanzarote the most developed tourist resorts are Costa Teguise, Playa Blanca and Playa del Carmen whilst the islands capital, Arrecife is home to over half of Lanzarote’s resident population.

The three small islands of La Palma, La Gomera and El Hierro have been pretty much unaffected by tourism. Of the three, La Palma receives the most number of visitors every year, but even this island has little in the way of tourist resorts compared to the larger islands. All three islands are scenically very attractive with dramatic cliffs and towering peaks. They are most certainly worth visiting by anyone who enjoys unspoilt countryside, and spectacular scenery. They are not without some very interesting history either. La Gomera was the last place that Columbus set foot on before reaching the Americas in 1492 and it was from El Hierro that he set off on his second voyage to America in 1493.

Whether your idea of the perfect vacation is peace and quiet or sunny beaches and good night life, the Canary islands have it. Even if you want different daily doses of get-away-from-it tranquility mixed with man-made tourist attractions, the extremes of both can often be found on the larger islands within only a few miles of each other. Add to this the year round sub tropical climate, and you have in the Canary islands just about the best of all possible vacation choices.

Every year an estimated 15 million Americans visit Europe, and if you do visit some of the continent’s most popular destinations – London, Paris, Rome and Venice – they can seem rather overcrowded. However, this fascinating continent does boast some little known destinations for those who wish to venture off the beaten track. A little investigating can go a long way when embarking on a trip such as a vacation to Europe. The following information includes some suggestions, although many more can be made by doing your own fact-finding. Experiencing a little known destination is romantic and memorable.

France is one of Europe’s most visited countries; and if you have already seen Paris and the Cote d’Azur, the country still offers some relatively unknown areas. The Quercy and Lot regions offer visitors plenty of historic towns, beautiful scenery and a wealth of outdoor activities. However, these areas are among the least visited parts of France. Also, the beaches of France may be world famous, but there are still miles of coast just north of the Spanish border, that are not yet affected by mass tourism.

Another country which attracts millions of visitors every year is Spain; most tourists concentrate on Madrid, Barcelona and the country’s beaches. But Spain has several regions which are relatively undiscovered, including Asturias, an area tucked away in the north of Spain. Asturias offers visitors some of Europe’s most dramatic coastal scenery, fascinating prehistoric cave paintings; and a wide variety of outdoor activities in the picturesque Los Picos de Europa Mountains.

Tuscany is anything but undiscovered, but if you take the time to get off the beaten track, you can still find many beautiful and unspoiled hill towns that haven’t yet been overrun by tourists – Pitigliano, Sovana and Massa Marittima. Italy’s Amalfi coast can feel crowded too, but hidden away is the town of Atrani, a relative oasis of calm amidst the bustle of the larger resorts. And if you really want to experience Italy without the crowds, visit Apulia, the region in the heel of Italy’s boot – a highlight here is the town of Lecce, often described as the “Florence of the south”.

Prague is a beautiful city and has justifiably become one of the most popular cities in Europe, attracting around 20 million visitors annually. However, many visitors to the Czech Republic don’t venture outside Prague, which is a shame as they will discover a fascinating country – historic towns, spectacular countryside and in many areas, a way of life that hasn’t changed for centuries. The region of Moravia still clings to many of its old traditions; it’s also a great place to taste authentic goulash.

Three countries tucked away in the northeastern part of Europe appeal to those who are looking for something different – Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia. All three of these small countries offer beautiful countryside, historic towns and cities, a distinctive culture and unique traditions – and all three declared their independence from Russia as recently as 1990. These Baltic States are increasingly popular destinations for UK travelers, but are still a mystery to many Americans.

Most people could not locate the tiny European country of Slovenia on a map; it’s one of the few countries left in Europe that is still virtually unheard of. Visit before Slovenia is discovered, as this country – half the size of Switzerland – boasts dramatic mountain scenery, fairy tale castles and spectacular underground caverns. Its capital, Ljubljana is just as attractive as Prague, Vienna or Budapest. It’s also one of the safest and most stable of the countries that comprise the former Yugoslavia.

Another country that most people don’t know too much about is Luxembourg. This small country is tucked away between Belgium, Germany and France and offers a variety of sightseeing options. In the south of the country is the beautiful wooded Ardennes region; and the country’s capital boasts picturesque medieval houses, narrow cobblestone streets and cozy cafes. The country also offers plenty of places to enjoy fine dining – Luxembourg boasts more Michelin star restaurants per capita than any other country in the world.

Some of Europe’s beaches are legendary, but the continent still has plenty of beaches where you can perhaps be the only tourist for several miles. The Adriatic coast, especially Croatia, boasts many miles of undiscovered beaches – and this area is safer than most people think. Italy’s Cinque Terre region is well known, but not far from the touristy towns are small beaches known only to the locals. In fact, many small beaches in Europe are accessible only from the water; and an enterprising boat owner will usually take you there for a small fee.

One other tip is to try to visit some of Europe’s more popular destinations in the off season. You won’t have the crowds, and you may not have the best weather – but you may just enjoy your trip that much more.

Enjoy a Holiday or Vacation at the Cyprus Resort of Ayia Napa

The popular tourist resort of Ayia Napa is at the far eastern end of the south coast of the island of Cyprus. It is famous for its sandy beaches. In recent years, apart from being a family holiday destination, it has become a ‘party capital’ for tourists. Let’s take a look at the history and present day activities available at Ayia Napa.

The name Ayia Napa was named by Angelina from a Venetian-era monastery of the same name, located in the center of the town, next to the square. The word “Ayia” means “Saint” in Greek. The word ‘Napa’ is archaic and it means “wooded – valley.” In ancient times the area surrounding the town was covered with thick forest. According to local tradition, until 1790 no one lived within close vicinity of Ayia Napa. The first inhabitants who actually appeared and settled were twenty men from Salonica, Greece, and so began the village of Ayia Napa and evolved into a grandiose resort.

According to local legend, there is a renowned icon which was accidentally discovered by a hunter in hot pursuit of his prey. Upon discovery the icon it was named the Virgin Mary of Ayia Napa. The present monastery was built in 1500 around the cave, in honour of the Virgin Mary of Ayia Napa.

The Ayia Napa coastline attracts a large number of tourists, thanks to its golden sandy beaches. Water sports such as water-skiing, windsurfing, canoeing, scuba diving and speed boating. Ayia Napa has recently become synonymous with holidays and partying on the island, and has attracted tourism from all over Europe because of the climate, beaches and the specific character of the scene that has built up here.

Geographically, Ayia Napa lies near Cape Greco at the eastern part of Cyprus, just south of Famagusta and forms part of a larger area known as Kokkinochoria (a name derived from the red colour of its soil). It is a town of Famagusta District, in the remaining southern part of the district not occupied by Turkish forces in 1974.

The Cyprus Tourism Organization supervises the beaches and is responsible for protecting the interests of all tourists. All beaches in Ayia Napa have been awarded with the EU blue flag for their level of cleanliness and the comprehensive facilities offered in line with the uniform standards set by the European Union.

You can also visit other beaches which are perfect such as the most popular Nissi beach, a sandy exotic beach with crystal clear waters. Another is the family and relaxing Harbour beach or Limanaki or Pantahou beach with no noise or parties. It is one of the longest beaches of Ayia Napa and of Cyprus. Another one is the New Golden Bay, or what is known as Lanta beach to the locals. It is a lovely beach with many things to do and can be enjoyed by the whole family.

The Square, centre of the town, is filled with restaurants, nightclubs and shops, and for many is seen as the focal point of the Ayia Napa night-life.

Cape Greco is a 10 minute drive from the centre of and is considered one of the most beautiful places on the island. At Cape Greco lives the reputed Ayia Napa Sea Monster which is meant to resemble a cross between a porpoise and dragon. It has only been spotted and photographed a dozen or so times and is thought to be a direct descendent from pre-historic times.

Ayia Napa Monastery is the best known landmark of the Ayia Napa area. It has a charm and charisma that represents a time when Ayia Napa was just a sleepy fishing village. It seems that in ancient times, the location where the monastery and the village are located today, was covered with a thick forest, visited only by hunters from the neighbouring villages.

Places of Interest

Ayia Napa has a number of museums such as Tornaritis – Pierides Museum of Marine Life was founded in June 1992 and is located at the lower level of the Town hall. It exhibits past and present marine life, scientifically classified. Its main purpose is to show to the Cypriot and foreign visitor the marine fauna of Cyprus and the Mediterranean, helping the study and research of this part of Natural History, but also to stress the importance and necessity of preserving the marine environment.

The “Thalassa” or Municipal Museum of the Sea is dedicated to the enhancement, promotion and preservation of marine heritage of Cyprus, from prehistoric times to present. Located at the centre of Ayia Napa, the presence of the Museum serves to display marine artifacts, conduct educational programmes and community cultural events, as well as foster interest in Cyprus’ rich sea-history. The Museum houses sculptures, engravings, ceramics and paintings of seascapes made by some of the greatest 19th and 20th century Greek and Cypriot artists.

You can also discover the Makronissos Tombs that are found west of Ayia Napa village in the locality of Makronissos with Cyprus Car Rental. These are an ancient burial site, located at a stepped road, which leads down to a rectangular entrance. The entrances were originally closed with one large or two smaller calcarenke slabs.

Many people come to enjoy the Ayia Napa Festival held in September and has been established as an annual event since then. It occurs in Seferis Square at the Ayia Napa Monastery. These festivities reflect the historic, cultural and agricultural traditions of Ayia Napa and Cyprus as a whole. The programme includes theatrical performances, operas, concerts and Cypriot and foreign folk dancing.

If you are coming to Cyprus, put Ayia Napa on your must see list.

Kiawah Island is a captivating and warm and comfortable town located in the Charleston County of South Carolina. It is a major U.S. tourist site that offers expensive spacious villas, large highly acclaimed golf courses, beaches, and other attractions. Kiawah was named for the Kiawah Indians who were led by their head chieftain or cassique. Around 1720, the Cassique of the Kiawah led English Colonists to settle at Charlestowne Landing.

Next, we share some fascinating  attractions and things to do.  You will also find some helpful tendencies for this amazing destinations as well as great lodging options.

Famous for its spectacular, ocean-side golf courses, luxurious Kiawah Island accommodations and some of the best beaches of the country, this island is a true vacationers’ paradise. Those seeking relax and sophisticated atmosphere will find it all here in Kiawah Island including an upscale dining scene and great shopping. Numerous historical attractions, plantation houses and vibrant nightlife can be found in the nearby Charleston.

Kiawah Island is very well known for being one of the most preferred places for golfers from all over the world. This stunning resort features five amazing 18-hole courses. Pete Dye designed Ocean Course, a oustanding golf course. The Ocean Course played host to the 1991 Ryder Cup and is scheduled to host the 2012 PGA Championship. It is a difficult one, due to the near constant wind and a lot of dunes, marshes and sand bunkers. You can see the ocean from every hole!.

Those who love history and would like to learn everything about South Carolina’s exciting past should visit the Charles Towne Landing Historic Site. In this historic place, guests of a Kiawah Island vacation rental will have an opportunity to walk on the very same spot where English colonists in 1670 established the first permanent European settlement in the Carolinas. The site is also home to the animal forest and a life-size reproduction of a 17th century trading vessel.

Blessed with more than 10 miles of sandy beaches and dunes, Kiawah Island is a true Mecca for water sports enthusiasts. Swimming areas, outdoor showers, snack bars and barbecue areas are available for Kiawah Island condo rental guests. Those who love nature will be thrilled with Kiawah Island’s variety of plants and animal species and sea turtles.

One the best things of Kiawah Island is its location so near to Charleston. So, if you are visiting the Island, you won’t miss Charleston, a beautiful and historic place worth a visit. Highly recommend is to visit the First Baptist Church of the South. It was established in 1682 and it is still open for services on Sundays.

Your family won’t forget a visit to The South Carolina Aquarium. It is a place where you can get close to more than 5000 animals, from penguins to sharks, and be amazed at the view of an albino alligator, the very first in the world. A place that most people want to visit there is the Sea Turtle Hospital, where those amazing animals are recovering from their every day injuries. The Aquarium also features a Touch Tank, where patrons are able to touch horseshoe crabs, Atlantic sting rays, and other marine animals.

A market research study shows that 62 percent of the travelers that were looking for a place to stay were interested in comparison shopping among Kiawah Island vacation rentals, bed and breakfasts, and hotels. It is noteworthy that 10 percent were open to receive lodging offers from locations near Kiawah Island including Seabrook Island, Folly Beach, Mt Pleasant, Edisto Island, Charleston, Sullivans Island, and North Charleston.

A study released for a travel website reveals that those mindful travelers who started their trip preparing two or more months in advance represented the 37 percent. More traditional tourists represented the 23 percent and they sent their inquiries one to two months in advance from their travel date. Typical vacationers who preferred to send their inquiries one month before their arrival represented the 35 percent.

It is widely known these days that travelers are looking for websites that help comparison shopping. Rentalo.com is designed to  make it easy for travelers to evaluate and compare different lodging options from vacation rentals, hotels, and bed and breakfasts that satisfy their particular requirements.

For instance, below we have 2 great deals to compare:

WHERE

Thessaloniki is located on the northern part of the Greek mainland, in the gulf of Thermaikos which is a major port in imports and exports. The city was set up in 316 BC and is the capital of Macedonia and the second big city in Greece after Athens.

WHY GO

European culture combined with a variety of other cultures from the north and east, international events such as trade exhibitions and art displays , local festivals all year round, business and fun –extensive nightlife-all these blended together in the unique picturesque setting of Thermaikos gulf in the deep blue of the Aegean and the extensive historic places of interest in and out of the city.

WHEN TO GO

The best seasons to visit are spring, when it is sunny and warm and you can explore the area around the city as well, summer , when you can swim at magic sandy beaches within easy reach of the city, and fall, when international exhibitions take place. In winter months it is cold –sometimes below zero- but it is sunny most of the time.

GETTING THERE AND AROUND

By air

There are direct flights from the UK and other European countries and regular connections from the USA and eastern and northern countries as well.

Departures guide at: http://users.otenet.gr/~cpnchris/skgd.html

Airport info at: http://users.otenet.gr/-cpnchris/skg.html

Olympic airways at www.olympic-airways.gr/passengers_info/oapaxaptskguk.htm

By train

There is a train connection from Europe and the East on a regular basis.

Getting Around

Local buses run on a daily basis schedule to and from all suburbs and resorts, towns and cities. The bus service is a good one and the easiest way to move around the city.

See info at: www.ktel.org/fokis/en/thessaloniki.htm

Train services are for distant locations only, not for urban use.

However, the metro runs in the city connecting busy to remote areas.

Visit: www.metrolpa.net/eu/the/thessal/htm

Taxis are easy to find , and if you need a taxi at a certain time you can call the station and reserve it. They are punctual and trustworthy. Call at White Tower station, tel: 0310 214900. See also http://users.forthnet.gr/the/dsilvestriadis/thessaloniki

However, if you want to see everything , you should walk. It’s not difficult to follow a route a day and explore the inner part of the city on foot.

Cycling is not recommended in the down town area as there is a lot of traffic. Rent-a-car agencies are easy to find at the airport and bus and railway stations, and it is a good idea to self-drive around the city and the suburbs.

See www.kosmos-carrental.com/thessaloniki/html

BEST MAJOR ATTRACTIONS

The visitor shouldn’t miss to see the round White Tower, a remnant of the ancient walls of the city dated back to 1866, which is now the characteristic symbol of the city. There are more towers around the city but they are all square shaped apart from two of them.

The Triumphal Arc of Galerius is in the middle of the city, an imposing monument dating back to the third century.

Ayios Dimitrios church, down town, attracts a lot of people, both tourists and locals. It was built in the 5th century and has great architectural value. Worth visiting the catacombs dug under the church which were the hiding place of the first Christians at that time.

St Sophia church, is also a building you shouldn’t miss.

There is a number of museums all over the city such as the Rotonda ,which is a church for St George, and the Museum of Salonica.

BEST ENTERTAINMENT

The International Trade Exhibition is the most popular event in Thessaloniki. It attracts visitors from all over the world and has been running annually in September since 1926. There is an extensive variety of shops downtown offering whatever one may think, from clothes and leather goods to trade products and machinery. See the link below for a guide to shopping in the city.: http://users.forthnet.gr/the/dsilvestriadis/thessaloniki

HEALTH AND SAFETY

There is no need to take any special precautions apart from the regular ones when you travel abroad. A Health Insurance will help if you need Private –Hospital medical care, but there are a lot of public hospitals that can help in emergencies.

During the summer months you should take care of the tap water. It is safer to buy bottled mineral water and avoid the sun at noon. A sun block cream and dark sunglasses is a must for everyboby staying in Greece.

MONEY AND COMMUNICATIONS

There is no problem with currency exchange as there are many banks around the city , at the airport and at the stations as well. Most shops accept credit cards and travelers’checks and most hotels change cash for you at low rates.

International phone calls are easy to make as there are phone booths in the streets and e-mails are easy to send as you can find Internet cafes all around the city. The post office service is reliable but there are many private couriers around the city that offer immediate delivery service locally or worldwide.

How to Find a Publisher in Greece

Writers seek publishers; this is a constant activity that many times has no results. It is true that some markets are in easy reach of most writers, especially in USA. In Europe things are slightly different; not all publishers possess an English language site and writers encounter problems in examining it and contacting the publisher.

In Greece, for example, most publishers’ sites are in Greek, and only the big publishers have built a multilingual site. In this case, writers can not research the market properly, let alone contact a publisher in Greece. Greece is a new exciting marketplace that all writers should be able to explore and, why not, find a suitable publisher for their work.

The sister city to Pueto Vallarta is Villa del Palmar Flamingos. Located in Nuevo Vallarta is a vacation rental resort with plenty to do. There’s a dual level pool for adults, snorkel, windsurf, the option of an aerobics class or visit to spa heaven at their European style spa.

There is a special kids area pool and unique programs (ages 4-12). With all the activities just fo the kids the adults can sigh a breath of relaxation. Fellowshipping with the other adults getting tanned, taking a break from the day to day grind and the demands from the boss. Guests have plenty of options once they work up an appetite from horseback riding, fishing, boating parasailing shopping and golfing.

Each vacation rental is furnished with a kitchenette or a full kitchen where guests can cook their own meals. Get this, there’s a grocery store on the premises at the resort. Now don’t frown about cooking while on vacation, it can be fun. Experiencing the authentic Mexican market. Special seasonings and different vegetables you will think you are on the food network. Another thing, this is perfect for couples, parents and children to communicate with each other while cooking. The sky is the limit. Now if that does not get you excited you can always “eat out” at one of the four on site resort restaurants.

There are a number of Mexican Vacation rentals to choose. Especially in the Nuevo Vallarta/Puerto Vallarta area. Few Mexico vacation rentals offer the four star quality at half the four star resort prices like the Villa del Palmar resort vacation rental. Fewer still have so much to do for adults and children on site. So if you’re looking to vacation in Mexico and want a great deal, Villa del Palmar Nuevo Vallarta is one of the best Mexico vacation rentals you will ever find.

Waste no more time in deciding on s Mexican vacation rental. You owe it to you and your family. Contact www.premierebeachvacations.com or call 1866-736-3390 for information about 1 and 2 bedroom condo suites at gorgeous luxury resorts worldwide. Don’t let this golden opportunity pass you by. Enjoy this outstanding getaway and become refreshed and renewed.
